Curly Hetchins by Blackjack Brewery

Our good friends at Blackjack Brewery brewed up a fresh Pale Ale in memory & celebration of the wonderful like of Dr Andy Fowell, late father of Richard Fowell, (director of Blackjack Brewery), avid cyclist and Trustee of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

We at Loughran Brewing Stores were humbled to be asked to support a great cause.  Our good friends at Blackjack Brewery brewed up a fresh Pale Ale in memory & celebration of the wonderful like of Dr Andy Fowell, late father of Richard Fowell, (director of Blackjack Brewery), avid cyclist and Trustee of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.these efforts by donating Cashmere, Idaho7 & Meridian hops produced by Crosby Hops® & Indie Hops in tribute to such a kind & caring man who contributed so much to the lives of so many.

The beer will be released by Blackjack Brewery on March 15th in both cask & can with 50p from every beer poured being donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Andy spent the last 25 years of his working life setting up the palliative care system across North Wales and beyond. This work was of immeasurable comfort  to those with Motor Neurone Disease and their end of life care.

Andy was an extremely enthusiastic & competent cyclist and previously raised £25,000 for the MND Association by cycling across Europe. This beer is named after his much loved bike, the Curly Hetchins, which he bought with his first pay cheque as a doctor.

Tragically, Andy died in a cycling accident in Snowdonia in September 2021, a week before his son’s wedding.

Huge thanks to Emma Hobbins for the beautiful hand drawn illustration of Andy’s bike for the can design and pump clip.

You can check out some of the live brew day footage on our Instagram highlights and feed.  We will add a link to the beer when it is live here!
