‘Hot Chick. Hard To Catch’ - Introducing Meridian from @indiehops Meyer lemon, boysenberry, spearmint, sassafras, sweet-tart, pineapple. Mesmerizing on the rub, this top-note hop is challenging to capture in your beer, but worth the effort for those who persist. Better lucky than good sometimes. Meridian was an accident of propagation–we thought we were propagating USDA variety Columbia, but ended up with a rogue seedling. The good news–the first harvest in 2012 smelled amazing! Customers showed interest, so we contained the hop while evaluating for disease resistance and consistent character. By 2015 we were convinced of the hop’s stability and began to expand under the trade name Meridian. ‘Hot Chick. Hard To Catch’ – Introducing Meridian from @indiehops

Meyer lemon, boysenberry, spearmint, sassafras, sweet-tart, pineapple. Mesmerizing on the rub, this top-note hop is challenging to capture in your beer, but worth the effort for those who persist.

Better lucky than good sometimes. Meridian was an accident of propagation–we thought we were propagating USDA variety Columbia, but ended up with a rogue seedling. The good news–the first harvest in 2012 smelled amazing! Customers showed interest, so we contained the hop while evaluating for disease resistance and consistent character. By 2015 we were convinced of the hop’s stability and began to expand under the trade name Meridian.

Spot ordering vs contract, an important message from @indiehops... ‘From an agricultural standpoint, forward contracts are critical for stabilizing crops. It takes two to three years for a new hop field to mature and produce consistent quality. For brewers, contracting hops is the best way to secure supply and ensure quality via post-harvest selection. But you’re obligated to the hops, and it’s difficult to predict your future ingredient needs in a changing marketplace. Each brewery must determine how to manage their future supply risks based on their evolving business.’ Not having the correct stocks of hops can cause huge problems for brewers, finding the right balance between having the supply, predicting a demand and formulating recipes can be tricky. The newest kid on the block… Lórien™ from @indiehops Magical, exhilarating, and festive—Lórien™ is the third hop to be commercially launched by Indie Hops. The second--Strata–was destined for a lead role in IPAs and DIPAs. Lórien™ is destined for lead roles as well, but at the opposite end of the hop and beer spectrum. Tangy fresh fruit and the feeling of a summer meadow near a cold mountain stream, Lórien™ is conducive to celebration and appetite. Low alpha and squeaky clean, leave the taps open and let ‘er flow! The third hop release from Indie Hops (2021), the seed was gathered in 2010 from a cross designed by Shaun Townsend at Oregon State University where he manages the breeding portion of the Indie Hops Flavor Project. A Sterling female pollinated with a German male, Lórien™brings a classy combination of Old World and New to craft brewers worldwide. Although craft brewers are sure to surprise us with creative ways to utilize this new hop, Lórien™ has advanced through Indie hops’ hop development process with crisp, refreshing lager beer in mind. This hop has a unique ability to let the tasty malt platform shine, yet contributes an addictive finish of lemon/lime zest, fresh melon, sweet hay and wildflowers, all capped by a cinnamon spice that cleanses your palate and lures you back for more. Global brewing is already well served with classic lager hops such as Hallertauer m.f., Hersbrucker, and Czech Saaz. Indie Hops advanced Lórien because it brings more fruit and floral character while dialing back a bit on the grassy/spicy character of the classics.
